Chile photography
I found Chile to be a colourful, friendly and welcoming South
American country (although it was a tad expensive compared to other countries). I spent around a month travelling through Chile towards
the back end of my travels round South America in 2005.
For me the most spectacular of Chile's gems was their Southern
most national park 'Torres Del Paine'. Fantastic snow
capped peaks rise aboe low level cloud and emerald green
lagoons ... don't forget to wrap up warm, it was
freezing.
Unfortunately I was unable to fly to Easter Island however I was told its worth a trip.

Taking photos around Chile
The following are tips on sites, places, areas of interest that make great opportunities for photography around Chile (in order of the towns I visited). Of course in the end you should not force a photograph, let it find you.
Quick links -
Torres del Paine
Valparaiso (inc Vina Del Mar)
Santiago
Torres del Paine photos
For me Torres del Paine was one of South America's gems and certainly worth a visit.
Torres del Paine is not the easiest place to get to however I would advise taking a bus from Puerto Natales. Once in the national park you are greeted with a spectrum of nature photography from thick lush forests to exquisite lakes and emerald blue glaciers. There is an extensive trail network to follow and many popualr trails including the 'W' trial (which I took) that takes you around the peaks of Torres del Paine, Los Cuernos and Paine Grande.
Valparaiso (inc Vina Del Mar) photos
If you are interested in taking photos of the sketchier side of Chile then this is certainly one town to come to. Valparaiso really does have oodles of character seeping from its urban sprawling streets. Take a look at some of the black and white photos I took.
I would advise an air of caution if you are travelling around by yourself as there are some areas that are dubious to say the least.
In contrast to Valparaiso its neighbour Vina del Mar is a lovely beach town with great parks and nice beaches. You really do feel like you are in a district of Spain rather than a South American city.
Santiago photos
Out of all the South American countries I visited Santiago really showed off its European roots. To be honest I did not take too many photos of Santiago as I did not find it as exciting as other cities however with the Andes as its backdrop it is worth a visit.
What I did enjoy most about Santiago was the colourful architecture - most notably doors. A door in Chile is seen as one of the main focus points of a 'casa' thus they tend to be highly colourful and in some cases reflect the individuality of the occupant.
